Radio Assignment One - not my competition
Angel and Gold FM are both radio stations that would not be my stations competition because they have total different types of music:
Another reason as to why they wouldn't be competition is because they have a totally different target audience to what my radio station has, theirs is 50+ when mine is not.

Radio Assignment One - Name of my radio station
My radio station is going to be called - About You FM
this i hope will show the listener that they are the focus of my radio station.
Slogan - "A radio station all about you and all for you"

Slogan - "A radio station all about you and all for you"
Radio Assignment One - Why they are my competition
Heart FM and Capital FM are both my top competition for the fact of what type of music they play, they are always playing the up to date charts but also have some old songs to such as 80's music. The other reason why they are competition is the presenters, the fact that they are bubbly and very chatty, the way they connect with the listeners as well they connect the same way that i wish for my radio station too which is comforting and alive. both of these radio stations also have a wider broadcasting network too seeing as Rajar tells me that both of these radio stations get over 7,000 listeners everyday so for my website to be successful i would have to have over 8,000 everyday at least.
Radio Assignment One
Researching my competition - my main competition
- Heart Radio - this radio station would be big competition for the fact that it plays simular music to what my radio station would, also the fact at the way the presenters interact with the listeners, further more also the fact they have a wider range when it comes to their listeners.
- Capital -this radio station its main reason for it being competition is its music.

Radio Assignment One
My Station and listener - how will you meet their needs?
My listener is a 30 to 35 year old single full-time mum, she loves her old classic songs that she can belt out to in the car on the way to pick up the children from school or when cooking dinner in the evening, Artists like Adel and Kelly Clarkson are some of her fav's as they are empowering and independent. she looks for comfort and motivation in a radio station, she likes the fact that they can be a un biased friend giving her a out side opinion if she ever needs one.
My radio station will meet my listeners need because their aim is to achieve all of the above for their listener, they play that type of music, they are a comfort and a motivation and they are always happy to have phone-ins and emails. also the presenters on my radio station are relatable to my listener.

Connecting with listeners
To connect with your listeners you must meet their needs, this will vary from format to format but there is one common need among all listeners and that is: how the station makes you feel.
Comforted - make you feel safe, allows you to get involved through "phone-ins" and quizzes, you never feel alone. The presenters and station are your friends.
Chilled out - the radio station keeps you relaxed and helps you unwind, makes you "feel at home"
Informed - from local to national news or events, what is going on in the world, is everything ok? Gives you something to talk about to friends, knowledge is power!
Alive - Radio keeps you motivated and engaged, provides the theme tune to your life, wakes you up, entertains and informs you throughout the day.

Radio Formats
Contemporary Hit Radio:
Adult Contemporary:
Hot AC:
Gold, Classic hits:
Specialist:
•Playing a mix of songs from a number of genres such as pop, rock, r’n’b - popular songs can be heavily rotated
•Includes current chart hits
•Some bigger stations have celebrity presenters, Top 40 shows
•The style tends to be informal, chatty with good audience interaction
•Appeal on both a local and national level
Adult Contemporary:
•Can be a cross over from CHR but generally will play older classics, rock and ballads
•Songs from 60’s 70’s 80’s
•Appeal to an older audience
•Larger stations attract well known presenters
•The style can be relaxed but ‘grown up’ in the case of commercial but tends to be more formal from the BBC.
Hot AC:
•It’s not always possible to put each station into a format.
•Some will cross over two formats
•An example of this is a station that plays both hits from the 80s and some chart songs from today.
•These stations are typically targeted at females in their 30’s
Gold, Classic hits:
•Aimed at older audiences, or in the case of sport stations, audiences that are listening for a reason
•Hits from the 60’s and 70’s – maybe 80’s
•Some will have more speech content
•More information in terms of news
Specialist:
•These stations focus on a specialist area of music.
•They can also focus on a specialist interest or target a specific group of people (religious beliefs etc)
•The presenting style is targeted depending on the particular audience. Classic FM presenting would be different to Kerrang.
Community:
•Non profit - aimed at serving the community.
•They play a mix of songs but generally mainstream and presenters of community radio are often volunteers.
•The style is friendly and casual.
•In store and hospital radio also fall into this category
